在英語(yǔ)中,“粥”的說(shuō)法不止porridge。

1、porridge /'pɔrɪdʒ/
我們在課文裏學到的“粥”的基本英文就是porridge。朗文詞(cí)典對其解釋爲:soft cereal that is cooked with milk or water,更貼近於(yú)我們理解的燕麥粥。
2、gruel /'ɡruəl/
Gruel也是粥,不過(guò)指“稀粥”,特别是過(guò)去窮(qióng)人或病人吃的一種稀薄的粥:thin oatmeal that was eaten in the past by poor or sick people。
They are fed a few grains of rice boiled into gruel a couple of times a day.
他們每天隻吃幾(jǐ)次用很少大米煮成的稀飯(fàn)。
3、congee /ˈkɑːn.dʒi/
Congee一詞有些詞典並(bìng)沒有收錄,劍橋詞典對其解釋爲:a kind of thick Chinese soup made with rice,更好理解的翻譯是“大米粥”,即我們中國傳(chuán)統意義上的粥。
Congee is often eaten with fried bread sticks known as youtiao.
大米粥常配油條吃。

可以是任何谷物煮的粥,gruel是非常稀的粥,而congee就是大米煮的粥。因爲(wèi)
