定語從句中的關系詞(cí)有時可以省略 ，但這隻限於(yú)限制性定語從句中，在非限制性定語從句中 ，關系詞(cí)則不可省略 。
1.當關系代詞who, whom, which和that在定語從句中用作直接賓語或介詞位於句末時的介詞賓語時，可以省略 。

2.當關系代詞that在定語從句中用作表語時，可以省略。

3.當關系代詞that在定語從句中用作賓語補足語時 ，可以省略。

4.當“way”表示“方式、方法”在句中作先行詞 ，引導定語從句可用that、in which，或者什麽都不用。

5.that 有時也可以代替關系副詞when，where，how或why引導定語從句，表示時間、地點或原因，that也可以省去。
