1.cloth/clothes/clothing
大家都知道clothes是衣服的統稱(chēng)，是複數形式，但cloth是clothes的單數嗎？clothing又是什麽意思呢？我們就好好區分一下cloth、clothes、clothing三個詞(cí)吧！
cloth指的是布料，是不可數名詞，所以要說a piece of cloth。但如果cloth是指有某種特殊用途的布，又變成瞭可數名詞 ，比如桌布a table cloth。而clothes就是指衣服的統稱，本身已經是複數。
clothing也是衣服的統稱，但卻是不可數名詞。clothing比clothes更抽象，也更正式。food and clothing是一個習慣搭配，意思是衣食 。
2.Your dress is loud.
我們都知道loud意思是大聲的 、吵鬧的，是形容聲音。但怎麽就用loud來(lái)形容裙子瞭(le)呢？
當用loud形容衣服時，意思是俗豔的、花哨的，loud = too bright or have too many bright patterns，相當於garish、gaudy。
loud除瞭可以形容衣服以外，還可以用來形容人，這時loud = someone who is loud talks too loudly and confidently，意思是招搖的、咋呼的。
例句：
Don't wear that red and green checked coat on your date. It's too loud。
别穿那大紅(hóng)大綠的格子衣服去約會。太俗瞭(le)。
Every time Tom gets drunk, he gets really loud.
Tom每次一喝酒，就真的特招搖(yáo)。
3.a checked coat
a checked coat可不是檢查過的衣服，這裏的checked是一個形容詞，意思是方格子圖案的。所以a checked coat表示一個方格子外套，和檢查沒關系哦！就是程序員小哥哥最愛穿的衣服之一。
例句：
Yesterday I bought a dress with a big yellow and blue checked pattern.
我昨天買瞭(le)一條黃(huáng)色和藍色的大格子裙子。
a checked coat是件衣服，和檢查無關，但check your coat也不一定是檢查衣服哦！
在入住酒店之類的地方，服務生可能會(huì)對(duì)你說:"You can check your coat at the door"。服務員的意思是你可以把外套寄存在門口，這裏check是寄存的意思 。
